1.What is OWOW?
OWOW stands for One Water One World an annual talk series organized by two Florida based non-profit organizations One Water Academy and Media for Change. OWOW is held in Miami and inaugurated in 2021.
2. Why is OWOW being organized?
Both Media for Change and One Water Academy have an educational focus. OWOW is a multidisciplinary approach to public education on the critical planetary issue of water. High-level experts, representing industry, government, utilities, civil society and academia, share their knowledge and expertise in these talks. Whether it is the health of our oceans, the quality of our drinking water, the future of our waterways, emerging technologies for water solutions… hand-picked exciting speakers share their stories and passion about addressing challenges relating to water.
3. Why Miami?
Whether it be the ocean or freshwater sources, Miami's ecosystem has it all. This abundance also means that Miami faces water related challenges in equal measure. From sea level rise, saltwater intrusion of aquifers, management of the Everglades, water contamination due to rapidly rising population pressures...all are local issues in Miami with global significance. Whether it be the innovations being tried to mitigate the effects of climate change to the geography-transforming investments being made to provide clean safe water to the growing population, Miami is a water frontier of sorts. These are some of the facts that make Miami ideally suited for holding the One Water talks.
